Prasad Shirvalkar

Associate Professor of Anesthesia, University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Shirvalkar is Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology, Neurology and Neurological Surgery at UCSF, with a focus in Pain Management. He completed his MD, PhD at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, was chief resident of neurology at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Weill Cornell) and completed a pain management fellowship at UCSF. His research focus is on basic neural mechanisms of chronic pain and developing personalized neuromodulation devices for treatment of chronic pain. Dr. Shirvalkar has helped develop central thalamic deep brain stimulation as a paradigm to augment conscious arousal. He has also made significant contributions to the development of personalized brain stimulation for treating chronic pain. He currently sees patients as a Pain Management attending at UCSF, and is a PI on clinical trials relevant to refractory chronic pain disorders.
