Rachel Stevens

Rachel Stevens ‘13 has worked as a Staff Attorney and Professor of Law with the Environmental Advocacy Clinic and, more recently, with the Environmental Justice Clinic since graduating from VLS in 2013 and completing the two-year LLM fellowship program. She works with communities to fight polluting developments such as fossil fuel and natural gas infrastructure, biomass, waste incinerators, asphalt plants, rock crushers, and paper mills, and advocates for stronger public health protections for communities exposed to lead, pesticides, PFAS, and other toxins. Before joining the faculty, she worked full-time as a student clinician at the EAC, where she received the Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Student Award; served as a Managing Editor for the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law; worked for Stack & Associates P.C., a boutique environmental and land use law firm in Atlanta, Georgia; and the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender, representing indigent defendants facing the death penalty. She earned her undergraduate degree in English, History, and Spanish from the University of Georgia, and received a J.D., Master of Environmental Law and Policy, and LL.M. in Environmental Law from the Vermont Law School. When Rachel is not working on her cases or teaching students, she can be found outside enjoying Vermont’s scenic environment and volunteering with the Vermont Chapter of the Sierra Club where she serves on the Executive Committee.
