Raffaella Cresciani

PhD Candidate in Criminology, The University of Melbourne

I am a PhD candidate in Criminology at the University of Melbourne researching violence against people with disability. My thesis focuses on the interconnections between a humanist imaginary of the person, and violent acts that can be perpetrated on bodies deemed incompatible with this vision of selfhood. My work also aims to expand what is considered ‘violence’ to better account for the legal, everyday, seemingly ‘mundane’ forms of harm perpetrated against people with disability.

I have experience as a criminology tutor at The University of Melbourne, UNSW, Macquarie University, and Deakin University. I have also been a research assistant at Monash University and am currently working as a research assistant at the University of Sydney on a project for the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
