Saipira Furstenberg

Associate Research Fellow, University of Exeter

Saipira completed her PhD in Political Science from the University of Bremen, Germany. Her PhD research was funded by Marie Curie ITN Programme for 2013-2017. Her PhD thesis explored Central Asia in the context of Globalisation and Global Governance. After completing her PhD, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Exeter on Central Asia Political Exiles project. In her postdoctoral project Saipira investigated patterns of extra-territorial security measures used by the states of Central Asia to target dissent abroad. Saipira has written and published on the topics of transnational repression in policy platforms such as Open Democracy and presented her work findings at the Parliament in the UK. Her research interests are in global governance, authoritarianism, security studies and politics of transnational repression and diaspora.
