Sami Pirkola

I'm the professor of social psychiatry in Tampere University, Finland. As a doctor and a psychiatrist I have clinical experience in mental health treatments, but most of all I have been a scientist and a developer of mental health services in Finland. From the nineties on my own areas of expertise have been suicides (Ph.D. from the original National Suicide Prevention project), population mental health and effectiveness of the mental health services.

Recently I was the chair of the task force for the Finnish National Mental Health Strategy 2020 - 2030, as well as the task force for the Finnish practise guideline for suicide prevention and treatment of suicide attempters.

Currently I'm the PI for a national level project studying the suicides of people under 30 years.
