Honorary Fellow, School of Social and Political Sciences, The University of Melbourne

I began working for the CSIRO Staff Association as an industrial officer in 1991, and was elected Secretary of the Association in 1999, holding that position for 4 years. I then undertook a PhD in international relations, examining global governance through a study of the World Food Programme. A book based on my thesis was published in 2011. I have taught at Monash, Melbourne and Deakin universities, and worked as a research fellow with Professor Jenny Lewis at the University of Melbourne on the Academic Networks project. This project used a large scale set of interviews to examine how academics in different disciplines and different countries network in conducting research, and the implications of this for research policy.
I have also had extensive community involvements, serving on the Board of the Fitzroy Learning Network for 18 years, and as a Board member at UnitingCare Moreland Hall since 2008.
