Sara Burt is a food microbiologist and hygienist. She researches the role of wild rodents and birds as vectors for zoonoses. She is also an authorised pest controller.
After graduating as a food scientist, Burt worked in the food industry in the UK for several years before moving to Utrecht University, where she obtained a PhD in 2007.
Sara is a member of the Royal Institute of Public Health & Hygiene, the central council of experts of the Dutch Foundation for the Quality Mark for Pest Control Companies, and the committee of experts of the EVM pest control examination board.
