Dr Sara Niner is a Lecturer and Researcher, School of Social Sciences at Monash University. She spent many years working with the East Timorese diaspora in Australia followed by many years consulting and researching in Timor-Leste and is widely published in this field.

She published "Xanana: Leader of the Struggle for Independent Timor-Leste" in 2009 and "Women and the politics of gender in Post-Conflict Timor-Leste" in 2017. Her current research focus is gender in the post-conflict environment of Timor-Leste. She teaches in the fields of Development Studies, Gender and Development and Anthropology.
