Senior Lecturer in Global History, University of Essex

I am a historian of New World slavery and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. My work connects American history (in the broadest sense, including Brazil and the Caribbean) with African history. I have published two single-authored books and a number of articles and chapters on related topics. I am also involved in a collaborative project to collect, transcribe and publish autobiographical testimonies by Africans caught up in the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
