Professor of Economics, University of Bristol

I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Bristol. Previously I was the Director of The Centre for Market and Public Organisation, CMPO and also the Director of The Centre for Understanding Behaviour Change, CUBeC.

I am also a Research Fellow and Theme Director at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA).

My current research interests are in the economics of education, including market-based education reforms such as school performance tables, school accountability, choice and competition, admissions and unequal access to high-performing schools. I also work on ethnic segregation in schools, and the educational performance of minority students. Previously I have worked on the analysis of poverty and household income dynamics, incentives in organisations, and employment and unemployment dynamics, and a few other topics.
