Sonali Gnanenthiran

Research Fellow, Cardiovascular Program, George Institute for Global Health

Dr Sonali Gnanenthiran (MBBS, PhD, FRACP, FCSANZ) is a cardiologist currently working at the George Institute for Global Health (Cardiovascular Program). She does cardiovascular research, with particular interest in hypertension, preventative health, management of cardiovascular risk, ageing and platelets.

Dr Gnanenthiran graduated medicine from the University of New South Wales with First Class Honours. She completed cardiology training at Concord Hospital and subsequently completed a PhD which was supported by a conjoint National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia / Heart Foundation scholarship. She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and Cardiac Society Australia New Zealand. She is also a staff specialist cardiologist at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and is a University of NSW conjoint senior clinical lecturer. She is a recipient of the John Chalmers Fellowship and Heart Foundation post-doctoral fellowship at The George Institute of Global Health, where she continues her post-doctoral research.

She has more than 40 publications (~70% 1st author), 40 national and international conference presentations and has attracted >$11 million in research funding. In recognition of her contribution, she has been awarded the 2023 American Heart Association Karl Link Early Investigator Award in Thrombosis; 2020 and 2022 American Heart Association Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award; 2021 Scientific Medal of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia New Zealand.
