Sophie Parkes-Nield

PhD Candidate, Creative Writing and Folklore, Sheffield Hallam University

Sophie Parkes-Nield is a PhD candidate at Sheffield Hallam University, researching English calendar customs at the Centre for Contemporary Legend. A practice-based PhD programme, Sophie is writing a novel that incorporates English customs to examine what they reveal about individuals and communities in contemporary England.

In 2019, she was awarded an MA with Distinction from the Manchester Writing School, Manchester Metropolitan University. Her undergraduate degree was in English Language and Literature from the University of Manchester.

She has also worked as a marketer and communications consultant for fifteen years, for a creative agency, an MP and her own arts and culture clients.
