Stan Neal is a Teaching Fellow in Colonial/Global History at the University of Leicester. His research interests are focused on issues of race, empire and globalization. His PhD thesis – titled Jardine Matheson and Chinese Migration in the British Empire – examined the role of private firms in acquiring Chinese migrant labour and perceptions of Chinese migrants in the British Empire in the nineteenth century.
