Senior Lecturer in Leadership, University of Huddersfield

Steve joined The Business School in 2007 to pursue academic interests in senior and strategic leadership development. Steve’s career encompassed twenty-five years in business leadership and development, in both publishing and media-distribution industries, receiving his first company directorship in his mid-twenties. Starting as a publisher’s Administrative Assistant, to Production Manager, General Manager, Business Development Manager and serving for over eight years as Managing Director. He also served as a trade committee Chairman leading initiatives aimed at industry-wide growth.

His teaching interests include drawing on the work of Mikhail Bakhtin and Paulo Freire, developing ‘open space’ learning-environments, increasing the level of student-led dialogue, as part of leadership learning.

Stephen’s research focus is senior and strategic leadership. His PhD is entitled “Late-modern voices of Leader-Self: Towards a Bakhtinian hermeneutic of senior-leadership interiority and orthodox purpose”.
