Steve is an enthusiastic and committed clinical teacher who is passionate about helping others achieve the same standards of excellence in their teaching that they demand of themselves clinically. A general practitioner by training, he has been involved in medical education since 1991 with positions including Senior Lecturer in General Practice at Monash University, Director of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners vocational training program, and editor of Australian Family Physician. He completed a research doctorate in 2000 on the training needs of doctors working with people who have developmental disabilities. He has taught widely in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia on communication skills for improved patient outcomes. He has been at the University of Melbourne since 2003 and in addition to his role current roles within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science, he is the Editor in Chief of "The Clinical Teacher" in the United Kingdom. After many years as a GP in Melbourne and Victoria, Steve now provides regular rural locums in northern Australia.
