Stuart Messinger

Award Leader: Animation and Stop Motion Animation and Puppet Making, Staffordshire University

One of my earliest memories is of lying belly-down on the floor... drawing; something that I have thankfully not grown out of, except I now sit at a table…sometimes.

From drawing pictures it was a natural step to want to make them move and so I went to school to learn how to do just that. After graduating from The Surrey Institute of Art and Design, BA (Hons) Animation I was a 2D animator on the CITV series, ‘Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids’. In 2002 I participated in a professional exchange to La Poudriere école du film d'animation, France where I produced and animated a one minute sting for French television. I graduated from The Royal College of Art in 2003 (MA Animation) and went into Visual Effects production management.

My film credits include: ‘Valiant’, Tim Burton’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, Roland Emmerich’s ’10,000BC’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ and Aardman Animations stop motion feature film 'The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists' directed by Peter Lord.

I am currently the Award Leader of the BA(Hons) Animation and BA(Hons) Stop Motion Animation & Puppet Making courses at Staffordshire University where I am a Teaching Excellence Fellow.
