Tanya Fitzgerald

Tanya Fitzgerald is currently Professor of Educational Leadership, Management and History at La Trobe University, Melbourne. She has previously held professorial appointments in New Zealand and England. Tanya's research interests span leadership and policy in higher education, the history of women's higher education, and the impact of state policy on teacher's lives and work. Recent books include Outsiders or equals: Women professors at the University of New Zealand 1911-1961 (Peter Lang, 2009) Travelling towards a mirage: Gender, leadership and higher education (Post Pressed, 2010, with Jane Wilkinson), Historical portraits of women home scientists: The University of New Zealand 1911-1947 (Cambria Press, 2011, with Jenny Collins), and Hard labour? Academic work and the changing landscape of higher education (Emerald, 2012, with Julie White & Helen Gunter). Recent books include: Women leaders in higher education (Routledge, 2014) and Women educators, leaders and activists 1900-1960 (with Elizabeth Smyth, Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). Previously Tanya was the Chief Editor of History of Education Review for ten years. Since 2007, she has been the co-editor of the Journal of Educational Administration and History. In 2012 Tanya was elected Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand History of Education Society.
