Principal Research Scientist, CSIRO

Tom Measham leads CSIRO’s Adaptive Communities and Industries Group which brings together over 30 social scientists and economists across 5 sites from Hobart to Townsville. His background is in human geography and his research focuses on how regional communities engage with the social and economic opportunities and challenges which face them. Tom has over 20 years experience spanning diverse industries and communities throughout regional Australia. He is the author of over 100 publications including more than 35 scholarly articles and 2 books. He has contributed as an expert adviser to several national and international committees and serves as Associate Editor for two international academic journals. He holds a PhD from Australian National University where he continues to perform the role of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Fenner School of Environment and Society.
