Tsega Etefa is a professor of History and Africana and Latin American studies at Colgate University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg in Germany. His work examines the origins of conflict and conflict resolution in Africa, with a focus on Ethiopia, Sudan, and Kenya.

He is the author of The Origins of Ethnic Conflict in Africa: Politics and Violence in Darfur, Oromia, and the Tana Delta. Integration and Peace in East Africa: A History of the Oromo Nation, Inter-Ethnic Relations on a Frontier: Mätäkkäl (Ethiopia), 1898-1991 (2006); Conflict Resolution through Cultural Tolerance: An Analysis of the Michu Institution in Metekkel Region, Ethiopia (2002).
