Uma is the Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University’s School of Business and Law. Uma is an expert in career wellbeing and a scholar of workplace diversity and inclusion research. Uma’s work encompasses the intersections of gender, race, disability and carers to better understand individuals career choices. Uma's lived experiences of marginalization as a minority race growing up in Malaysia is the foundation of Uma’s research and teaching that advocates inclusion in the workplace. As a lecturer in diversity and inclusion, Uma has proven track record to transform teaching and learning strategies in dynamic environments to enhance student engagement and learning. Uma has consistent high teaching evaluations and is very loved by the students for her pleasant friendly personality. Uma’s teaching philosophy is underpinned by a constructivist paradigm to facilitate adult learners in developing lifelong learning skills. Uma’s research is funded by the Australian Research Council, the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies, the Australian Medical Association, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Department of Communities and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
