Veronica Edmonds-Brown

Senior Lecturer in Aquatic Ecology, University of Hertfordshire

Ronni is an expert in freshwater ecosystems and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire.

Key areas of interest include urban river systems, rearing aquatic invertebrates and the implications of a national decline in taxonomic skills.

Ronni's research interests include: Recovery potential of urban rivers, urban river pollution and rearing of aquatic invertebrates for life history tables. In addition, Dr Edmonds-Brown was the first to successfully rear the native British white clawed crayfish in captivity.

At the University her management responsibilities include the ecological management of the University's Bayfordbury campus and Chair of the Board of Examiners for the Masters degrees in Environmental Management, Sustainable Management and Sustainable transport.

Samples of past PhD students include work on:
River Restoration - Dr Judy England
Identification of misconnection hotspots on urban rivers - Dr Chidnima Chiejina.
Impacts of urban runoff and recovery following new sewage system. North London. Dr Andy Green
Impact of introduced alien European catfish on UK waters. Dr Ann Rees.
Current PhD -students working on: Population dynamics of a translocated population of Aguis fragilis (slow worms).
Post grad research including masters by research:
Identification key for Hydroptilidae (Trichoptera). Shaun Dowman
The spread and impact of the virile crayfish (Orconectes virilis Hagen) on the native British crayfish. Adam Ellis
Estimating microplastic burden in marine fishes. (several masters students work).
Water Voles conservation.
Alternative methods of coliform testing.
