Associate Professor in Chinese Studies, The University of Western Australia

Yu Tao is an Associate Professor in Chinese Studies at the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he teaches contemporary Chinese society, politics, language, and culture.

Trained in political science and sociology in Peking, Cambridge, and Oxford, Yu’s primary academic mission is to make sense of the social foundations and mechanisms underlying politics. He is most interested in investigating and explaining the roles played by intermediate organisations in contentious politics, conflict resolution and local governance.
