Teens keep their religious identity

Teenagers retain the religious identity they grew up with, even as their participation in religious activities, such as attending church, declines.

The study, from the University of California, Los Angeles, found that adolescents’ ethnic background shapes their religious identity and participation. When changes in religious identity do occur, they are associated with other changes in ethnic and family identities.
