Type 2 diabetes is a family affair

Spousal history may take a greater role in the detection of type 2 diabetes, as people partnered to those with the condition are at an increased risk of developing it themselves.

Published in BMC medicine, the study found there is a 26% increase in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes if your spouse also has the disease.

Researchers believe that if couples recognise their shared risk of developing the disease, they may be more motivated to improve their eating and physical activity habits.
