Anaesthetic creates post-surgery ‘jet lag’

General anaesthetic alters your biological clock, according to new research.

The anaesthetic creates a chemically-induced jet lag, because it alters the activity of the body’s timekeeping genes. The effect was shown to last for at least three days.

Researchers hope that the findings will have implications for post-operative recovery.
