Coffee grounds: fuel, not landfill

Discarded coffee grounds can be turned into alternate energy sources such as biofuel and activated carbon.

Oil is extracted from the waste, grounds are dried to filter impurities in biofuel production, and any remnants are burnt as a source of energy from electricity.

If harnessed this technology will prevent one million tonnes of coffee grounds entering US landfill each year.
