Cornea discovery may lead to safer eye surgery

A new layer of the cornea in the eye has been discovered by scientists in the United Kingdom.

The cornea is the protective lens on the front of the eye through which light passes. It was previously believed that there were five layers of the cornea.

This breakthrough will benefit patient outcomes for surgeries such as corneal grafts and transplants.
