Current temperatures hotter than history

Today’s temperatures are nearly unprecedented in the past 11 000 years, a new study from Oregon State University has found.

Using 73 sets of climate records, from ocean sediment cores to tree ring data dating back 11 300 years, scientists showed that present temperature rises are unprecedented. They reconstructed global mean for the entire Holocene period.

The findings show that temperatures have fluctuated over the last 200 years. Temperatures now are hotter than 90% of the Holocene. 2100 will likely be hotter than human civilisation has so far experienced.
