Digital over DVDs: better for the environment

Scrapping DVDs in favour of digital and streaming media could save billions of kilograms of CO2 emissions.

Studies from Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory and Northwestern University show that the move to digital could have a big environmental effect.

While the study showed that renting a DVD online and streaming video had similar energy impacts, renting and purchasing DVDs from a store was much more energy intensive.
