Joint research by the University of New South Wales and Swinburne University of Technology aims to allow philanthropic foundations to identify under-served areas and avoid duplication of grants.
The study analysed the distribution of $207 million in self-selected grants by 12 foundations by cause, sector and region.
It found that while many organisations were supported by by multiple grants from different foundations, there was little evidence of collaboration or co-funding of projects.
