DNA linked to heart attacks

A specific DNA variant is linked with a person’s likelihood of suffering sudden cardiac death, according to researchers at a US university.

Someone who has a copy of the DNA variant is twice as likely to die from the condition, which kills hundreds of thousands each year in the US alone.

The breakthrough is a step towards being able to use genetic screening to identify those likely to die from sudden cardiac death.
