Don’t turn your back on a shark

Sharks are able to detect which way a human is facing and prefer to approach people from behind according to a new study.

The research by the Shark Research Institute and the University of West Florida studied the Caribbean reef shark. The experiment found that the sharks prefer to approach from behind to successfully attack prey from their “blind side”.

The researchers say the study adds to information on shark behaviour, mental capacity and how humans should interact with the animals in their habitat.
