Elephants react differently to different growls

Wild Asian elephants slink quietly away at a tiger’s growl, but trumpet before retreating from a leopard’s.

This difference in response could be due to the elephants being more fearful of tigers as leopards do not prey on them.

This knowledge could help to save the lives of crop-raiding elephants in India where farmers use poisons, firecrackers and electrified fences to try to keep them out of their crops.
