Global CO₂ emissions reach all-time high in 2011

The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency’s 2012 report, indicates that global CO₂ emissions increased by 3% in 2011. In absolute terms, this represents an all time high of 34 billion tonnes.

China’s average per capita emissions increased by 9% while the European Union’s decreased by 3%, placing these two regions almost on a par at 7.2 and 7.5 tonnes per person respectively. The United States remains a high per-capita emitter, with 17.3 tonnes of CO₂ emitted per person.
