‘It’s not you, it’s me’ - origins of some homophobic bias

People raised by authoritarian parents, particularly fathers, show a tendency to express homophobic opinions and conceal their own same sex attractions.

A University of Rochester study focusing on same sex attractions revealed people with low self autonomy were more likely to conceal same-sex attractions they felt would be “unacceptable” to their parents.

The same study also showed that they were more likely to express homophobic views.
