Immune system’s safety net identified

A safety mechanism in the immune system may malfunction in people suffering autoimmune illnesses such as multiple sclerosis.

The Monash University research details how potentially damaging marginal zone (MZ) B cells initially defend the body against pathogens, allowing it to enforce a specific immune response.

The findings could pave the way for innovative treatments to autoimmune illnesses.
