Nova School of Business and Economics

Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) is one of the leading Portuguese school in the areas of Economics, Finance and Management via its Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D., MBA and Executive Education programs. It was created in 1978 as part NOVA University of Lisbon that has acquired foundation status in January 2017. By tradition, its statutes and by laws, the University works as a “confederation” of units, providing extensive autonomy to its faculties, namely in managerial and financial decisions, staff and faculty recruitment, and pedagogical and scientific matters.

In addition to the core degree programs, faculty, key research programs and most back office functions, the School has developed a network of partner organizations statutorily bounded to it: Nova Forum, which handles Executive Education activities, and a private Foundation curated by the main donors, Alfredo de Sousa Foundation, responsible for fundraising, construction and management of the Carcavelos campus.

Nova SBE is on the list of the 30 best business schools in Europe with about 3000 students from more than 70 different countries, and its programs are recognized by the Financial Times. Member of the CEMS Alliance since December 2007, it is also a member of the restricted group of Triple Crown world schools, which implies accreditation by EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB, and is the only Portuguese school classified by Eduniversal as “Universal Business School” with five Eduniversal Palms.

It was the first Portuguese business school to acquire international accreditations and recognition of world renown in higher education. The international vision of Nova SBE is also reflected in the adoption of English as the main teaching language.
