University of Adelaide researchers have developed a simple and cost-effective DNA test to identify kangaroo species from their droppings alone.
Developed using collected droppings across north-eastern Australia and extracting the DNA, a unique pattern for each species was established, eliminating the need for costly gene sequencing.
The test has already identified a number of kangaroo species occurring outside their known range and will allow for better species management and conservation.
