Pellets used to harness waste heat

Marble-sized pellets made from thermoelectric nanomaterials have been designed to generate electricity from waste heat.

The pellets are made by adding tiny amounts of aluminium to zinc oxide and processing them in a microwave oven.

Harvesting waste heat could be used to produce – among other things – highly energy-efficient cars, aircraft and power plants.
