People more likely to walk when they have somewhere to go

People walk more when they live near shops, parks and access to public transport, new research suggests.

The longitudinal study measured the lifestyle habits of 1,400 people before and one year after moving to new housing developments in Perth.

They found proximity to amenities and perceived attractiveness of the environment increased the amount people walked, improving their overall health.
