Dima Bolmatov, Ph.D.

Research Assistant Professor in Physics, University of Tennessee

Molecular biophysics and materials science: scientist and outreach volunteer. Dr Dima Bolmatov currently works at the Department of Physics at University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Shull Wollan Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dima Bolmatov does research in synaptic plasticity of cell membranes, neuromorphic biomaterials, soft condensed matter physics, and molecular biophysics. Dima Bolmatov applies a comprehensive approach in studying biological membranes using different techniques, including electrophysiological DIBs (Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences and Shull Wollan Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory), x-ray (National Synchrotron Light Source II at Brookhaven National Laboratory; Advanced Light Source at Argonne National Laboratory) and neutron scattering (Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory), vibrational spectroscopies, and high throughput computer simulations (Summit at Oak Ridge National Laboratory). Dima Bolmatov also works on numerical analyses, and development of analytical models.

Dr Dima Bolmatov is also a volunteer at Youth Outreach (Yo-STEM). Yo-STEM is a non-profit organization whose aim is to empower underserved students nationally by educating them through hands-on STEM experiences. It connects diverse STEM professionals with underserved youth, including girls, cultural minorities, LGBTQ+ youth and kids from low-income families. Events are organized monthly in the Knoxville Metro area.
