Assistant Professor in Political Theory, University of Nottingham

My background is in the history of political thought, particularly the work of John Stuart Mill and Harriet Taylor. Most of my research focuses on their socialism. Since 2018 I have led the work on forced marriage being done by the Rights Lab, a University of Nottingham Beacon of Research Excellence, and home to the world's largest group of inter-disciplinary scholars working to end modern slavery by 2030. I won an AHRC Leadership Fellowship (start January 2020) to work on a project aimed at understanding the link between forced marriage and modern slavery, which is frequently made but not clearly justified. I look at the issue from a conceptual and legal perspective, and from the perspective of those who have experienced forced marriage.
