Adjunct Professor, Monash University

Professor Jacinta Elston, an Aboriginal woman from Townsville in North Queensland holds an Adjunct Professor appointments in the School of Population Health at Monash University. She is Deputy Chair of the Breast Cancer Network of Australia, the former and inaugural (2015-2022) Chair of Cancer Australia’s Leadership Group on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Control. Her career has focused on Indigenous health and Indigenous higher education, and she has contributed many years of service on state and federal ministerial appointments, and the boards of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in north Queensland.

From 2018 to 2022, Professor Elston was appointed the inaugural Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous at Monash University, and prior to that she was Professor at James Cook University in Townsville, where she worked for 25 years in several roles including prior to her departure as the Associate Dean Engagement and Strategy in the College of Medicine and Dentistry. Since February 2022, Professor Elsto has been an independent consultant and advisor.
