Michael D. Bailey

Professor of History, Iowa State University

I was trained in medieval European history with particular focus on the history of late medieval religion (ca. 1300-1500). My research has focused on the history of magic, witchcraft, heresy, and superstition. I have written both focused scholarly monographs and broader studies for students and general readers, with the more general studies extended beyond medieval history and into the modern period. I also founded and continue to help edit the academic journal "Magic, Ritual, and Witchcraft," which publishes scholarship on these topics from all time periods, all regions of the world, and all academic disciplines.
