Nadirah Farah Foley

Postdoctoral Associate, New York University

Rooted in sociology, my research explores issues of culture and inequality, primarily how people (especially young people) experience and make sense of race and class and inequality. My current research focuses on demographic changes and inequality in the suburbs, but my interests run the gamut from understanding the role of elite institutions of higher education to investigating how family structure impacts students’ educational trajectories. Prior to graduate school, I worked in higher education, in college access, college admissions, and student affairs. My writing on admissions, meritocracy, and inequality has appeared in venues including The Huffington Post, Public Books, and the New York Times. Currently a postdoctoral associate at New York University, I earned my PhD in Education from Harvard University.
