Engineers are aiming to help fire fighters investigate and battle dangerous blazes via new computer modelling of house fires.
The models can map how fires behave as they grow, predicting their temperature and pinpointing dangerous hotspots that responding personnel should avoid.
Future research will explore the behavior of fires in different scenarios and larger structures, such as apartment blocks.
