Social networks make us smarter

Why do some societies succeed while others disappear? Research from the University of British Columbia suggests that the degree of social connectedness is crucial for the development of advanced technologies and increasing cultural knowledge.

Participants in the study were required to learn a new skill, and teach it to others. Participants who were taught by multiple teachers developed stronger skills and retained their skills for longer than those who only had access to one mentor.
