Sonicating sperm may be the next male contraceptive

Therapeutic ultrasound could become an alternative form of male contraception in the future.

A study published in the Reproductive Biology and Endcrinology journal found that zapping the testicles of rats with ultrasound reduced their sperm counts to levels that would result in infertility in humans.

Further studies are needed, however, to determine the treatment’s length of effectivity and whether it would be safe to use more than once.
