Students discover new species of insect

Students from the University of Queensland have named and a described a newly discovered gall insect.

Apiomorpha nookara is a gall-inducing insect, and has physical differences from other related species, such as second chamber in the gall where adult females live, feed and give birth.

The students, Penelope Mills and Melanie Macdonald, named the insect for the area in New South Wales were it was first discovered.
