Kingston University

Kingston University has more than 20,000 students and is the largest provider of higher education in south west London. The University offers one of the widest ranges of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the UK.

The University conducts both fundamental and applied research; blue skies criticality as well as making innovative contributions in response to social need. Research and enterprise play a central role and the two activities are often closely connected. Researchers and academic experts work with key industry partners across the full range of disciplines, from Jaguar Land Rover and BAe Systems to the British Film Institute and the Venice Biennale. The Government’s latest research evaluation exercise – the Research Excellence Framework 2014 – rated 60 per cent of the University’s research as world-leading and internationally excellent.

The latest Higher Education Business and Community Interaction Survey 2014/15 reported that, for the sixth time, Kingston University had the highest number of graduates starting up their own companies of any institution in the UK. The University helped 371 entrepreneurial graduates get their companies off the ground in 2015 which represents one in 10 of all graduate start-up businesses in England.

A report published in March 2016 year by BiGGAR Economics showed that Kingston University makes a significant economic contribution to the local borough, London and the UK as a whole. The report found that, in 2014/15, the University generated an estimated £921.1 million Gross Value Added (GVA) and supported 12,500 jobs throughout the UK.
